Artist Jeff Musgrave has been creating and making art and home decor from naturally-shed antlers for well over twenty years. We’ve never met in person, but when he reached out to me for a website project, I was truly floored by his work. Being a beach-dweller most of my life, the antler lighting and art I’ve come across have been in mountain resorts, log homes, and craft projects. And then, I saw Jeff’s portfolio – whether it’s a light fixture or a sculpture, each piece is made up of antlers carefully chosen and fitted together by hand. He uses natural antler sheds (for us non-woodsy folks, that’s the antlers dropped each fall by deer, moose and elk.) So antlers are sustainable, and their different shapes and weathering give each antler its natural uniqueness.
A Maker of Antler art & furniture:
The time and care Jeff puts into his pieces results in magnificent sculptures, like this life-sized elk:
Or this sculpted Bust of A Deer:
This mirror design with a sculpted deer head at the top is one of my favorites:
And of course, as a designer I appreciate an awesome statement piece like this Antler Chair and Ottoman:
A maker of antler chandeliers:
When Jeff applies his artistic skills to lighting, his creativity really shines. I’m loving the rustic-modern aesthetic of these lighting pieces:
Antlers and Deer Mounts may be super-trendy right now, but Jeff’s pieces are timeless. I’ve always thought faux antlers are too uniform in shape, and it’s impossible to replicate the natural weathering of real antler.
When a trend is over, “Faux” is always the first thing to go. But antler furniture, art and chandeliers have been around for hundreds of years, and the real thing will always be chic. A bleached and whitewashed antler chandelier would fit right into my beach place:
And, I’m eyeing one of these Black Antler Chandeliers for an urban loft project that’s in the planning stages:
Jeff’s custom lighting work is in high demand, as he works with the client to design and build pieces with amazing quality and detail. The rhythmic arrangement of antlers on this chandelier makes for a mesmerizing view from underneath:
Iron and bronze sculptures are incorporated into some of his works, such as this incredible Eagle fixture:
Creative and Rustic antler Designs:
Rustic timbers support other pieces for a rustic-industrial vibe:
Jeff Musgrave is a Maker and Artist who puts a bit of soul into every piece he builds – whether it’s a massive, one-of-a-kind chandelier:
Or a heartfelt Crucifix:
